atachyon

Upgrading the weapons militaries already own into automated counter-UAV defense.

Overview

Atachyon is building a modular system that turns conventional weapons into automated counter-UAS turrets, giving armed forces a faster, cheaper way to defend against the fastest-growing threat on the modern battlefield.

The Problem

Low-cost drones now put soldiers, vehicles and critical infrastructure at risk every day. Dedicated interception systems are expensive and slow to scale, and conventional firearms were never built to hit small, fast aerial targets. Defenders are being outspent by the threat.

The Gap

Militaries already hold vast inventories of conventional weapons, but none of them can operate as automated counter-drone systems. Purpose-built alternatives demand new platforms, extra equipment and fresh procurement cycles. Capability exists on the ground. The intelligence layer is missing.

Why Existing Solutions Fail

Fibre-optic drones have changed the threat. They emit no RF signal, so RF-based detection, spoofing and jammers cannot see or stop them, leaving existing inventories of those systems obsolete against this class of drone. Over the past year, fibre-optic drones have come to account for the overwhelming majority of drone strikes in Ukraine and Israel (>90%). The alternatives are either prohibitively expensive or, like net-shooters, unreliable in changing terrain.

Our Solution

Atachyon is developing a sharpshooting robot that transforms a conventional firearm into an automated cUAS turret, enabling precision targeting, rapid response, and enhanced effectiveness against emerging threats.

Our Insight

The winning move isn’t another new weapon. It’s making the weapons militaries already own smarter. Upgrading existing arms makes counter-drone defense more affordable, more modular and far easier to deploy at scale.

Traction

We have onboarded a design partner and are actively building with them, shaping the system around real operational needs from day one.

Why Now

India’s defence sector is accelerating. Exports have grown roughly 56x, from ₹686 crore in FY2013–14 to ₹38,424 crore in FY2025–26, while domestic production has reached ₹1.78 lakh crore. A rapidly growing industrial base and strong policy tailwinds for indigenous, export-ready technology make this the right moment to build.
